a local business with local roots
My shop is based in a 100-year-old carriage house in Pickering Village — a pretty fitting place for a business built around working with your hands.
It's where I get to spend time building, woodworking, solving problems, and preparing for projects throughout the community.
I'm proud to call Pickering Village home, and I'm excited to put my skills to work helping the people and families who live here and throughout the surrounding communities.
At the end of the day, that's what this business is about: doing good work for good people, creating things I'm proud of, and making a visible difference in the homes and lives of the people I work with.
Why I do This
Pickering Village — It’s a community with character, history, and a real sense of neighbourhood — and I wanted to build a business that was part of that community.
I’m not looking to simply show up, complete a job, and move on to the next one. I want to help people with the projects that make their homes work better, look better, and feel better.
The common thread is simple: I like solving problems and I like seeing the difference the work makes.
There’s something satisfying about walking away from a project and being able to look at it and say, “I made that better.”
What makes my approach different
My background isn’t just in construction, it’s in problem solving
Years of working in data taught me to approach complicated problems methodically, pay attention to the details, communicate clearly, and find practical solutions. Renovating homes taught me how to apply those skills in the real world.
I bring that same approach to every project:
I think through the problem before jumping into the work
I care about the details that make a finished project look right
I communicate clearly about what needs to be done
I look for practical solutions rather than taking shortcuts
I treat your home like I would treat my own
I take pride in work that is built to last
Whether it's a small repair, a custom woodworking project, or a larger renovation, I believe the same principles apply: do it properly, pay attention to the details, and leave things better than you found them.
My Story
I didn’t start doing this because I always dreamed of being a handyman.
I started because I bought the cheapest house in town.
I was young, broke, and just wanted out of my parents' place — renting never felt like the right move, so I spent months trying to talk my brother into buying a house together. He finally caved, and with what little we had, the cheapest house in town was about all we could afford. We viewed it in January, in the dark, with no bulbs in the light fixtures and no coverings on the windows — we walked through with flashlights just to see what we were getting into. It wasn't much, but it was ours. Two guys in their early twenties aren't exactly known for great taste in home decor, so it stayed pretty rough for a while.
I met my future wife, continued living with my brother, life was good. Eventually we found out our first son was on the way. That changed things. If she and I were going to raise a family in that house, I needed to buy my brother out — and more importantly, I needed to actually turn the place into a home. Money was still tight, so there was really only one option: learn to fix it up myself.
What began as a home renovation quickly became a passion. After renovating that first house, I went on to renovate three more, learning along the way what it takes to turn a house into a home—and just as importantly, what homeowners should expect from the people they trust to work on their homes.
For the past 15 years, my professional career has been in data and analytics, where I've built a career around problem solving, attention to detail, planning, and finding better ways to do things. In that time, I had money, but what I didn’t have was time. As my boys got older and I had more time to pursue my own interests again, I was able to get out into the shop that I spent years planning and building but rarely was able to put to use.
That eventually led me back to something I had always enjoyed: building, fixing, creating, and working with my hands. Today, I get to combine all of those things—my renovation experience, woodworking skills, creativity, and problem-solving mindset—to help people improve their homes.
